Il Presuntuoso
A pure Sangiovese that doesn't seek approval
100% Sangiovese, grown in Terricciola on medium-textured soils, with a prevalence of skeleton and fossil residues. It ferments in cement, with long macerations and daily delestage, then ages for 24 months in multi-step barriques, and at least a year in bottle. The result is a wine that has plenty of time to become complex, without losing its freshness.
It is our version of Sangiovese in purity, but we call it Sangiovero: no shortcuts, no tricks to make it more accommodating. Just grapes, time and choices made to respect what the vineyard has to say.
In the glass, it is bright garnet red, and notes of violet, cherry, and raspberry come immediately to the nose, with a balsamic and freshly toasted finish.
In the mouth it is vertical, taut, with juicy tannins, lively acidity and a savoriness that lengthens each sip.
The label portrays the somatic features of a conceited man: a wry and sincere tribute to a wine that does not try to please everyone but, when it does, is not forgotten.
