Among the enchanting panoramic views of the Pisan hills, in the ancient village of Terricciola, a typical village of the Tuscan countryside, rich in history and traditions, in a land that expresses an ‘unparalleled wine vocation, stands the winery L’Agona.

From a project intensely desired by the Puccinelli family, its current owner, this dream was realized based on love and respect for nature and the land, with the aim of enhancing a world to be experienced in which, since time immemorial, every detail has been synonymous with history, culture, art, and wines of the highest quality.

For this reason, production was initially limited to only two wines then expanded to include a third, which will change sip by sip, year by year based on what the land will offer during the harvests.

HOW WE CULTIVATE

On our estate in Terricciola, we raise with dedication 2.5 hectares of Sangiovese and 0.5 hectares of Merlot. Our east-facing vineyards, established in 2003, are distinguished by a high planting density of 9000 vines per hectare, similar to that of the grand crus of Burgundy and Bordeaux.

This characteristic results in a high level of competition between the plants, from which results a qualitative improvement in the organoleptic characteristics of the grapes. Our vines are spurred cordon trained and carefully pruned to encourage adequate and sinuous branching, essential for the longevity of the plant.

Every day sees us busy between the rows, where we have reduced mechanization to a minimum and work mainly by hand. Always being present allows us to closely monitor the health of the plants and intervene only when strictly necessary.

We harvest exclusively by hand, carefully selecting only the best bunches, which we collect in 17 kg crates so as not to cause the berries to break. Once harvested, the grapes quickly reach our winery where we personally and independently perform all production operations, from crushing to bottling.
